This Mother's Day, I had the joy of bringing live illustration to one of my favorite kinds of settings — a space where fashion, flowers, and celebration come together. Fashion & Flowers, hosted at the 3.1 Phillip Lim showroom in New York City, was an intimate event honoring mothers, and I was there sketchbook in hand, capturing it all in real time.
A Celebration of Mothers, Style, and Springtime
There's something special about illustrating live at a fashion showroom. The 3.1 Phillip Lim space was in full bloom for the occasion — [describe the florals, styling, or decor here] — creating the perfect backdrop for guests celebrating the mothers and mother figures in their lives.
Throughout the event, guests stopped by my illustration station to be sketched live. Some posed solo in their favorite spring looks; others sat with their moms, daughters, or friends for portraits they could take home that day. Watching a mother and daughter unwrap their finished illustration together is exactly the kind of moment that made me fall in love with live event illustration in the first place.
What Is Live Event Illustration?
If you're new here: live event illustration means I create custom, hand-drawn portraits of guests on the spot, right at your event. Each sketch typically takes [X] minutes, and guests leave with a one-of-a-kind piece of art — part entertainment, part keepsake, part brand experience.
For fashion events like this one, live illustration is a natural fit. My background in Fashion Design and Technical Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology means I'm always paying attention to the details that matter — the drape of a sleeve, the line of a silhouette, the way someone wears a look that's entirely their own.
Highlights from the Day
The setting: The 3.1 Phillip Lim showroom, dressed in fresh florals for Mother's Day
The sketches: [X] live portraits created over [X] hours, capturing guests, their outfits, and their favorite people
The vibe: Equal parts elegant and heartfelt — champagne, flowers, and a lot of happy tears when moms saw their finished portraits
[Insert 2–4 photos here: your illustration station, a work-in-progress sketch, a finished portrait, and a guest reaction. Add descriptive alt text to each image, e.g., "Live fashion illustration of a mother and daughter at the 3.1 Phillip Lim showroom in NYC."]
Why Brands Love Live Illustration at Showroom Events
Live fashion illustration does more than entertain — it gives brands editorial-style, shareable content created in real time. Guests post their portraits, tag the event, and hold onto a physical piece of the experience long after it ends. For 3.1 Phillip Lim's Mother's Day celebration, every sketch became a wearable-art moment: a guest, a look, and a memory captured in ink.
